Oasis Documentary in Works From ‘Amy’ Filmmakers

Filmmakers have been granted “unprecedented access” to Britpop icons

The dramatic, tempestuous career of Britpop icons Oasis will be retold through a documentary created by the filmmakers behind the Amy Winehouse doc, Amy.

Amy director Asif Kapadia will act as executive producer with filmmaker Mat Whitecross directing. Amy producer James Gay Rees will also be producing the film, which has neither a title or release date yet.

Distributor Independent will make an official announcement with more details on the project within the next week, but Independent’s managing director Andrew Orr spoke with Screen Daily about the project. “Oasis are without a doubt one of the classic British rock bands, selling 70 million albums worldwide and defining the sound of a whole era,” he said. “At its heart are Liam and Noel Gallagher, two of the finest rock and roll stars this country has ever produced. Mat’s sensibility and style are going to provide the perfect complement to this tale of the rise of one of the great rock and roll bands.”

Neither Noel or Liam Gallagher have commented on the project, though NME reports that Independent and the documentary’s filmmakers have been given “unprecedented access to the band and unseen archive footage.”
